About Experience

West Coast winemaker Sakkie Mouton joins us for a six-course Japanese pairing dinner built around his wines, including two brand-new releases. It’s sea and smoke in the glass and on the plate, and Sakkie will be pouring and telling the stories behind every bottle.

The winemaker

Sakkie Mouton grew up on a family wine farm near Vredendal on the West Coast. He farms old, overlooked vineyards near the Atlantic, ferments with wild yeast, and makes wines known for their salty, maritime character. He is the winemaker behind Revenge of the Crayfish and Dawn of the Salty Tongues.

New releases

  • Gerookte Snoek Arinarnoa Rosé: made from Arinarnoa, a rare French grape.

  • Gerookte Snoek Red: made from Grenache Peluda, the “hairy Grenache,” grown on a mountain slope above Citrusdal.

Note: the abalone dish is farmed abalone.
